  • 1. Obesity is a global problem that affects 300 million peope worldwide.
  • 2. Nearly two-thirds, or 130 million adults in North America are overweight, and nearly one-third, or 61 million are obese.
  • 3. Approximately 15% of children and adolescents are overweight.
  • 4. 40% of Canadian adults are sedentary.
  • 5. Risk for heart disease and high blood pressure is two to four times higher among the over 18 million North Americans with diabetes.

  • 10. Exercise helps prevent heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, arthritis, osteoporosis, insomnia and cancer.
  • 11. Exercise has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety and depression and increase energy, focus and stamina.
